COMSYS report shows iDirect Expanding Leadership In Maritime VSAT Market
According to the new COMSYS maritime VSAT report 12 of the top 15 maritime service providers, or 80 percent, now leverage iDirect technology and, in addition, 10 of the top 15 rely on iDirect as their primary platform, including the leaders in nearly every major market segment. With 47 percent of all VSAT routers installed on vessels today made by iDirect, we've doubled our onboard presence in the past two years and accounted for 60 percent of all new installations in 2009. We may be the biggest name in the maritime market that shipowners and operators haven't yet heard of, but our new Director of Maritime Christian Bergan is already connecting with partners and end-users to support the growing VSAT maritime market.

Ship Equip Survey Shows Average SEVSAT Data Nearly 20GB/month

iDirect partner Ship Equip has released a recent customer survey demonstrating that its average monthly data traffic for the 770 ships using its VSAT systems has more than doubled to 19.7 gigabytes per ship per month, as of April 2010. With a typical monthly bill for its customers of around $3,500 USD the price per megabyte of 19.7 gigabytes of traffic works out at approximately $0.175, or seventeen and a half cents. The large jump in data across the SEVSAT system may be due to initial caution of customers accustomed to an expensive pay-per-megabyte system, where high usage can result in hefty bills for ship owners and operators. iDirect Launches New Dedicated Maritime Microsite
The use of VSAT technology in the maritime industry to solve business, personnel, customs, training, and technical challenges has exponentially grown in the past five years. iDirect, through the support of industry leading service providers and network operators, has played an important role in helping expand the connectivity capabilities at sea. With almost 50 percent of all VSAT routers installed on vessels made by iDirect, we've decided to create a dedicated on-line resource for our maritime end-users. Together with 'Sea Connections' of which this is the first issue, our blog and resources area at www.idirectmaritime.com
